OUR NEW BLOG: "LIVING IN A POSTCARD..." - February 18, 2010

LIVING IN A POSTCARD...    (Our new blog)

We have decided to join the 20th Century and begin keeping a Blog.

We will try to write interesting things that y'all want to read. A random assortment of Dutch oven recipes, hidden campsites, Landry's new art projects, and all the rad people we meet on the road.

OUR NEW BLOG IS AT THE BOTtoM OF THE TOOL BAR ENTITLED:

LIVING IN A POSTCARD...

It's a concept that predates the World Wide Web. It's some sort of Walt Whitman wanna be Jack Kerouacian compulsion to drive through the night and sleep on the side of the road with cars rushing past, afraid of bears, insane truckers, ghosts, or whatever, so that you can wake up in the morning and discover something new and distant, and feel like perhaps for that moment all your rushing was worth it, because you are living inside a postcard.

Here's our postcard from this morning:

 BALMOREA MORNING

It was 22 degrees when we woke up this morning at a "roadside table," as we call it, somewhere outside Balmorhea TX. There was ice on the ceiling of the van and Landry and I were safe and warm sleeping in our clothes under two down blankets.

Lonesome Heroes "Don't Play to Lose" Music Video from Daniel Stolzman on Vimeo.

We woke up this morning and finally after 100,000 miles on the road we are famous!
REALLY FAMOUS!!!
Thanks world wide web...

Check out this awesome review of our new Music video from Austin's premiere Indie Rock news outlet/ purveyors of all that's cool: THE AUSTIN SOUND

January 5th, 2010
http://www.austinsound.net/2010/01/05/video-the-lonesome-heroes-dont-play-to-lose/
"The Lonesome Heroes are a wandering lot, so maybe we shouldn’t be too surprised that it took them about three years to make a video for “Don’t Play to Lose.” We give them a pass on the old tune, though, because the video is pretty great. How can you not love two adorable kids escaping from some hardcore bikers and bouncers?! It’s like Goonies II: Goonies in the City! Or something. Kudos to Daniel Stolzman of Frameless Films for directing the video, and to Rich Russell and Landry McMeans for wherever they dug up their younger counterparts. As for the Heroes themselves, they’ll be back in town after last month’s trek up into the north east for a gig at the Continental Club on Saturday, January 16 with Lil’ Cap’n Travis and Grand Champeen. Check out the video below:"

December 2009 East Coast Tour - January 5, 2010

Back home in Austin for the 1st annual Blue Cheese Christmas at The Hole in the Wall. Howdy Y'all,

The New York City music video release and our east coast tour home were amazing. Despite breaking down in Nashville for 5 days, Helga, the star of our music video, made it home safe, and we even got a good country song out of it all.

Thank you to everyone that gave their time to help us with the music video, and a special thanks to Margo and Jeremy from Buffalo Clover and Lilly Hiatt for helping us out in Nashville, and to all the guys at Athens Imports for keeping the dream alive.

The amazing mechanics from Athens Imports in Athens, Georgia that kept us on the road.

Lonesome Heroes in Austin Film Festival Release: "Straight to the Bone." - October 24, 2009

Wow we are movie star! Landry and I make a cameo appearance in Erik Mauk's new film "Straight to the Bone."

Here's the story:
Jay and Shannon have been together since college. Now, both approaching 30, Shannon makes an understandable request for the ultimate commitment. Unfortunately, Jay does not see the need for such a legal definition of their relationship. Frustrated, Shannon seeks comfort in the arms of Blake - a new friend who seems to share her ideals about the future. Does she gamble on this new opportunity or stick it out with the one she loves - who may not be able to give her all she needs? Mauck weaves the always complicated story of relationships set against the backdrop of Austin, creating a film that also reads as a love song for the city in which it takes place.

We explain the logistics of Chicken Shit Bingo @ Ginny's Little Longhorn, then the characters come to the Hole in the Wall to watch our band play. It's really awesome!

The Film is showing at the Austin Film Festival this weekend.

Rich Russell and Landry McMeans meld their harmonies and guitar and dobro into delectable tunes that captures the Lonesome Heroes’ restless and wandering spirit. With a backing band that includes an impressive cast of Austin players, the duo delivers gentle ballads cut with a psychedelic country swirl, McMeans’ gorgeous vocals traded with Russell’s down-to-earth sound. Following 2006 EP Don’t Play to Lose, the group released their appropriately-titled sophomore effort, Crooked Highway, this past year, and are planning a live album for sometime in 09.

Austin Sound Sound Off - February 25, 2009

Check out this weeks Austin Sound Sound off about us....

http://www.austinsound.net/2009/02/23/sound-off-the-lonesome-heroes/
Sound Off: The Lonesome Heroes»
Few young artists have done as much to promote the local music scene as the Lonesome Hereos, who started up the Wednesday alt. country nights at the Hole in the Wall. Like the lineups that founders Rich Russell and Landry McMeans booked, the Heroes’ music has an eclectic roots range. There are touches of cosmic country and Sweetheart of the Rodeo in their psychedelic tinged, restless country tunes, but the real draw of the Heroes is excellent melding of Russell and McMeans in spirit and sound. McMeans dulcet twang and expansive dobro, and Russells’ more grounded drawl and guitar combine for a mesmerizing and beautiful exchange, while their songs evoke the open west Texas expanse of road and possibilities. With their latest album, Crooked Highway, they have assembled a stellar band of local luminaries, and you can see the songs come alive twice this week. The Lonesome Heroes play the Hole in the Wall this Wednesday with Tiny Tin Hearts and the Axons, and then will be dropping into Red River on Thursday, February 26 with Aimee Bobruk , Lee Barber, and Danny Malone for a show at Club DeVille.

Excerpt from The Austin Chronicle Article:
“Don’t Look Back, The Lonesome Heroes Rewrite the Rules of Alt Country.”
Since taking up residency at the Hole in the Wall last September, the Lonesome Heroes' alt.country nights have become one of the most popular weekly events in Austin. As a genre, alt.country hardly begins to characterize the eclectic lineups that Russell and McMeans put together… The Wednesday bills draw crowds mixing Mohawk punks and country kickers, as well as some of the town's top musicians and producers. Behind Russell and McMeans' infectious energy and their intent on building a collaborative environment, it's a scene that recalls the days of Doug Sahm holding court at the Soap Creek Saloon.
